The first edition of this textbook, published in 2004, quickly topped the bestseller list and is now an established core text for mental health nurses who are trained and in training. This second edition has been extensively revised to incorporate changes to the UK policy context of mental health nursing, the legal framework of mental health care and in light of the "2006 Chief Nursing Officer's (England) Review of Mental Health Nursing, From Values to Action". The first edition preempted the findings of the Chief Nurse's review in its call for mental health nurses to incorporate the principles of recovery into their work with service users and focus on improving service users' health outcomes. This new edition once again looks towards the future with its emphasis on nurses' understanding of lifestyle interventions to promote mental health and to the public health role of the mental health nurse, which, it predicts, will become increasingly important. The second edition comprises 34 chapters, four more than the first edition, contributed by an expert group of clinicians and researchers drawn from a range of disciplines. There are many new chapters and the others have been extensively revised and/or updated. The chapters provide comprehensive coverage of the field of mental health nursing work, and an annotated reading list at the end of each chapter guides readers towards more in depth, study
