Resumen: El Trabajo de Fin de Grado realizado pretende conocer la importancia y papel desempeñado por el sector servicios, concretamente el turismo, en la transformación socioeconómica de un espacio de gran interés cultural como es Santillana del Mar. Así como los efectos que han tenido la aprobación de los diferentes planes de ordenación territorial y urbanística en este ámbito. Para conocer estas transformaciones socioeconómicas experimentadas desde finales del Siglo XIX en el municipio de Santillana del Mar, se ha realizado un análisis detallado de aquellos aspectos que tienen que ver con la demografía, la economía, la vivienda y la planificación territorial y urbanística. De esta forma es necesario destacar el desarrollo del municipio, que ha pasado de ser un espacio tradicionalmente ganadero hasta el Siglo XX, a convertirse en la actualidad en un área de gran afluencia turística tanto nacional como internacional, gracias a los recursos y valores que presenta, como son las Cuevas de Altamira (Declaradas Patrimonio Mundial por la UNESCO en 1985), y la propia Villa y su Conjunto Histórico Artístico declarado en 1943 y formado por Monumentos Históricos-Artísticos como la Colegiata de Santa Juliana (declarada así en el año 1889). Además de estos cambios socioeconómicos, otro de los pilares fundamentales del trabajo, son los instrumentos de planificación territorial y urbanística que afectan al municipio. Se han analizado el Plan de Ordenación del Litoral, el Plan General de Ordenación Urbana de Santillana del Mar, el Plan de Excelencia Turística y el Plan Especial de la Red de Sendas y Caminos del Litoral. Teniendo estos un efecto positivo sobre el municipio, pues han permitido mejorar, proteger y dar a conocer puntos claves del mismo
Resumen: The rural areas of the Eastern Cantabrian Mountains are currently characterized by suffering some changes in its more traditional aspects. It has been producing from the past second middle century. However, survive some features of these places that give them traditional identity. The objective of this final work degree is analyze the changes and permanences, and for it the study of the high Asón area, specifically the villages of Ruesga and Arredondo. I have chosen these villages by its similar geographical characteristics and them similar evolution, in addition with their proximity within the study area. The area of high Asón, has been marked by a continuous population decrease, which with other factors have caused changes in recent decades. One of the biggest changes is the case of agriculture and cattle. This activity has been one of its hallmarks, a mainly livestock dairy, which took advantage of the conditions of rich pastures of the Valley and taking advantage on the hydrological characteristics of the Asón river, as well as the mountains and climate. However, in recent years has been a change and modernization of the sector, also joining the entrance to European policies, as well as a continued lost of population active in this sector that have made the activity changes completely. In addition changes have happened in the rural appearance of the area, as a result of the housing boom, building residential, building typologies that do not respond to the true population demand in the area and have been developed with a very outdated urban planning unable to properly manage this growth. On the other hand, survive certain characteristics, such as its rich heritage territorial as the tight supply of goods and services, and the need for access to the regional head Ramales de la Victoria. To sum up, this area explains the transformations and stays that are taking place in most of the rural areas of the Eastern Cantabrian Mountains, being a clear example the decreasing of the population of these rural areas and changes in the economy and traditional appearance.
